God looked in love on the world that He had created and saw a need for deepening salvation. The Angel Gabriel was sent on mission to a humble young woman who had listened in prayer to the God of peace. ‘At night my soul longs for you, my spirit in me seeks for you.’ (Isaiah 26:9) Open to the power of the Holy Spirit, she surrendered to a divine call to bear the Son of God to bring salvation to all humankind.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation today, ‘We Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary’ respond to God’s call to be Joyful Bearers of the Word to our Fragile, Wounded World. We renew our consecration to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We unite our prayer with Pope Francis as he consecrates the Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We respond to President Zelensky’s appeal to rally for peace as we enfold the wounded, broken people of his nation in daily prayer. In collaboration with the wider body of Christ we endeavour to do all that is reasonably practical to relieve the suffering of this part of Christ’s body on earth. May the prayer of Christ, ‘May they all be one, Father may they be one in us, as you are in me and I am in you.’ (John 17:21) come to pass. May the salvation for which Christ lived and died for bear a blessing of peace on all humanity. May the Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us.
